English. A new stage of freedom

English. What that language means to me?

Many people learn English by necessity, that is because of utilitarian considerations. So they easy answer this question. They say, for example, I'm going to move to an English speaking country... or... I'll get a job where good command of English is essential.

I have no such reasons. Maybe someday I will have similar circumstances, but even so, they won't be the reason for me to learn English.

It's quite difficult for me to answer this question, although I've been seriously studying English for about half a year already and I'm often asked about it. Being a JW, I once joked that I wanted to read the Watchtower in the original. It's true. But this is only half the truth. The whole truth is wider and deeper.

The people are greatly interesting for me. I'm always trying to find comprehension with anyone. Once I even was happy to acquaint two nice people who lived in different countries. The time difference with one of them was minus 2 hours, and with another, plus 5. So here. In such moments you begin feeling yourself like a citizen of the world. But without English I wouldn't have such an opportunity.

And yet. I like things to be versatile, accurate and beautiful. Perfect command of English  for me is the embodiment of that idea. English is universal. This is obvious and beyond any doubt. I want to learn to think English, as well as I can think in those languages that are my native. Language is a tool. I want to own it. I want to own myself on a new stage. I consider, self-control is a beauty.

To summarize ... I need a freedom given by knowledge of English. I need a freedom to reveal comprehension and warmth to those who live on this planet, regardless of latitude and longitude. If you understand and feel someone, he's next to you, even if he observes sunset, when you are in the morning.

P.S. It is hardly possible to explain the things above to everyone. Especially if someone is forced to study by the circumstances. So sometimes I reply what a person is ready to hear. I just try to understand... ;)

P.P.S. Well, generally... if anyone didn't understand me... it's ok :)
I'm just a bit lunatic about getting that ... new stage of freedom!

Mommy. The great movie

In my childhood, I was greatly fond of the movie "Mama" ("Mommy"). It was filmed after the Brothers Grimm's Fairytale "The Wolf and the Seven Little Goats." The film is very musical and sincere, it deeply touches indeed. Today I got to know that, turns out to be,  the movie filmed in 3 languages: Russian, Romanian and English, and more so it was  both filmed and duplicated in each language separately (!). It's also very touching. The film was made with such great love, even there is nothing to compare it! It's absolutely unique.

In general, I decided to find the English version on a torrent, to download and to watch it. Especially considering that I study English and actually the many suggest to watch movies in the language which you study.

To my delight, I even found on a Wiki the words of a wonderful song about Mommy.
Here is the page.

A Hindu man, my new acquantance

Yesterday I got acquanted with a man via italki.com.

He's a Hindu by his birth, however by his words, again, he lives in Liverpool. Today we talked with him again. But if exactly, it wasn't so. Actually I spoke and he wrote. He said that there was broken either his microphone or his computer at all.

It seems that his name is Mike, although I know that only from italki. But I didn't ask him about his name directly. I was surprised that he wrote with mistakes, although he said he lived in England for about 20 years. He replied that he was in a hurry, and some of his friends suggested him to go somewhere. In general, I'm not sure that I will learn much with him. Probably I'll have some practice in that I knew before. It's not too bad also.

Mike, if he is really Mike, asked me something about the Russian. So I remembered my long-ago journey to Moscow and visiting the ballet "Angara". The story was about power plant builders. The time was Soviet. The dancers played builders, hence they danced in helmets and high boots. In general, I can't recall the ballet without laughter  =)

Such was the story!
