English. What that language means to me?
Many people learn English by necessity, that is because of utilitarian considerations. So they easy answer this question. They say, for example, I'm going to move to an English speaking country... or... I'll get a job where good command of English is essential.
I have no such reasons. Maybe someday I will have similar circumstances, but even so, they won't be the reason for me to learn English.
It's quite difficult for me to answer this question, although I've been seriously studying English for about half a year already and I'm often asked about it. Being a JW, I once joked that I wanted to read the Watchtower in the original. It's true. But this is only half the truth. The whole truth is wider and deeper.
The people are greatly interesting for me. I'm always trying to find comprehension with anyone. Once I even was happy to acquaint two nice people who lived in different countries. The time difference with one of them was minus 2 hours, and with another, plus 5. So here. In such moments you begin feeling yourself like a citizen of the world. But without English I wouldn't have such an opportunity.
And yet. I like things to be versatile, accurate and beautiful. Perfect command of English for me is the embodiment of that idea. English is universal. This is obvious and beyond any doubt. I want to learn to think English, as well as I can think in those languages that are my native. Language is a tool. I want to own it. I want to own myself on a new stage. I consider, self-control is a beauty.
To summarize ... I need a freedom given by knowledge of English. I need a freedom to reveal comprehension and warmth to those who live on this planet, regardless of latitude and longitude. If you understand and feel someone, he's next to you, even if he observes sunset, when you are in the morning.
P.S. It is hardly possible to explain the things above to everyone. Especially if someone is forced to study by the circumstances. So sometimes I reply what a person is ready to hear. I just try to understand... ;)
P.P.S. Well, generally... if anyone didn't understand me... it's ok :)
I'm just a bit lunatic about getting that ... new stage of freedom!
